Booking & payments

How the three booking types work, what you pay and how deposits are handled.

How do flight and bus bookings work?

Choose a flight or bus, add the passenger details and send a booking request. Nothing is charged. The Safaro team books it with the airline or bus operator and emails your PNR or ticket number, usually within a few hours. Your e-ticket is then in your bookings, ready to download as a PDF or print.

Search flights
When and how do I pay?

Only once the team has confirmed your fare. No card is charged when you send a request. The confirmation email says how to pay; if the airline or operator has changed the fare in the meantime, we ask you before booking.

Can I book stays, treks and activities yet?

Not yet. Local hotels, guides and operators are joining now, and we list each one once their licence and registration check out. Leave your email on the home page and we'll tell you when they open.

Does Safaro charge travellers a booking fee?

No. The price you see is what the host charges, including 13% VAT and any 10% service charge they are required to add. Partners pay Safaro a commission only when a booking completes.

How does the deposit for a scooter or motorbike work?

When you pick up a scooter or a Royal Enfield, the owner records a refundable security deposit, usually NPR 3,000 to NPR 10,000 depending on the model. After a quick inspection on return with no collision damage, it goes straight back to your wallet or card, or is returned in cash. Bring your licence and an International Driving Permit; traffic police in Pokhara do check, and helmets are required for rider and passenger.

Are prices per person or per group?

Each listing shows its unit next to the price: per night, per person, per day, per flight or per group. The total before you pay already includes the number of guests and days you picked.

Cancellations & weather

Refund windows, how long refunds take and what happens when the weather turns.

How do I cancel a flight or bus request?

Until the team confirms it, withdraw the request from your bookings at no cost. Once your ticket is issued, reply to the confirmation email or call us: changes and refunds then follow the airline's or operator's fare rules.

What happens if my paragliding flight is cancelled for wind or rain?

Weather-dependent bookings (tandem paragliding, ultralight flights, white-water rafting and bungee) carry Safaro's weather guarantee. If the pilots, the Nepal Airsports Association or the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal ground flights, you are moved to the next flyable slot at no cost. If you leave Pokhara before then, you get a full refund with no cancellation penalty.

How late can I cancel a stay?

Most stays refund in full up to 48 hours before the 1:00 PM check-in. Sarangkot and ridge lodges, which have only a few rooms, need 72 hours. For monthly long stays, 50% of the deposit is refundable up to 14 days before you move in. The listing always shows its own terms before you pay.

Which months are most affected by weather?

The monsoon, roughly June to mid-September, brings afternoon rain, cloud over the peaks, leeches on lower trails and more grounded flights. October to November and March to April are the most reliable. Winter mornings are clear, but higher trails can close after heavy snow.

Trekking permits

Which treks need permits, what they cost and where to get them in Pokhara.

Do I need ACAP and TIMS for day hikes around Pokhara?

No. Day hikes to the World Peace Pagoda, the Sarangkot viewpoint or Begnas Lake don't need permits. Once you enter the Annapurna Conservation Area, past Phedi, Kande or Nayapul, you need both an ACAP permit and a TIMS card, and they are checked at government checkpoints.

How much do ACAP and TIMS cost?

For foreign nationals, the ACAP permit is NPR 3,000 and the TIMS card NPR 2,000. SAARC nationals pay NPR 1,000 for each. Permits are per person and per entry, and an ACAP permit bought at a trail checkpoint instead of in advance costs double.

Where do I get permits in Pokhara?

At the Nepal Tourism Board office in Damside, a short taxi ride from Lakeside. Bring your passport, two passport-size photos, your insurance details and an emergency contact. If you book a trek on Safaro, your guide or agency arranges both permits; you only send your passport details before departure.

Do I need a licensed guide to trek?

Since April 2023, Nepal requires foreign trekkers in national parks and conservation areas, including the Annapurna region, to trek with a licensed guide, and TIMS cards are issued through registered agencies. Every trek on Safaro includes a licensed guide.

Which treks from Pokhara need permits?

Mardi Himal, Poon Hill and Ghorepani, Annapurna Base Camp, Khopra Ridge and the Annapurna Circuit all need ACAP and TIMS. Upper Mustang, beyond Kagbeni, is a restricted area: the permit costs USD 500 for the first 10 days and needs a licensed guide and at least two trekkers.

Are permit fees refundable if I cancel?

No. Once a permit has been issued against your passport, the government doesn't refund it. That is the only part of a trek booking that is non-refundable by law; the rest of the package is refundable up to 7 days before departure.

Safety & emergencies

Emergency numbers, insurance, altitude and staying well on the trail.

Who do I call in an emergency?

Call the Tourist Police on 1144: it is free from Nepali SIMs, open 24 hours and English is spoken. For an ambulance dial 102, for the police 100. Then message Safaro's on-trip line on WhatsApp so we can reach your host, guide or insurer.

What travel insurance do I need?

For any trek above 3,000 m, your policy must cover emergency helicopter evacuation at that altitude; Poon Hill (3,210 m), Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m) and the Mardi Himal viewpoint (4,500 m) all qualify. For paragliding, rafting and bungee, check that adventure sports are covered, because many basic policies exclude them.

How do I avoid altitude sickness?

Above 3,000 m, raise your sleeping altitude by no more than 300 to 500 m a day, drink plenty and add a rest day for roughly every 1,000 m you climb. A headache, nausea or breathlessness at rest are signs to stop going up; if they get worse, descend. Your guide makes that call with you.

Is the tap water safe to drink?

No. Drink filtered or treated water. Most Lakeside cafés will refill your bottle, and the Annapurna trails have safe drinking water stations run with ACAP, which also keeps plastic bottles off the trail.

Are pilots, guides and rafting crews licensed?

Yes. Paragliding pilots are NAA-certified with passenger insurance, trek guides hold TAAN or NMA licences, rafting crews carry full safety kit, and every hotel has a valid tourism registration. Our Pokhara team checks documents before a listing goes live.

Partners & listing

Listing a stay, vehicle, activity or guiding service, and how payouts work.

How do I list my business on Safaro?

Open the partner portal, add your business details and your first listing. Listing is free; Safaro takes a commission only when a booking completes. Our Pokhara team checks your documents before you go live, usually within two working days.

Open the partner portal
What documents do I need to list?

Your business registration and PAN, plus the licence for what you offer: a tourism registration for hotels and homestays, a trekking guide licence for guides, NAA certification for paragliding pilots, and the bluebook and insurance for every vehicle you rent out.

How and when do partners get paid?

Payouts are made in NPR to a Nepali bank account, eSewa or Khalti after each booking completes, minus Safaro's commission. Every payout and booking is listed in the partner portal.

Can I set my own prices and cancellation terms?

Yes. You set prices, availability and the cancellation terms shown on your listing. Weather-dependent activities must offer Safaro's weather guarantee, and terms stricter than our standard ones are shown clearly before travellers pay.

Can I switch between instant booking and requests?

Yes. Turn on instant booking when you keep your calendar up to date on Safaro. Use request to book if you need to confirm each booking yourself; you then have two hours to reply.

Signing in, finding your bookings, saved places and your personal data.

Do I need an account to book?

No. You can browse, save places, plan a trip and book with just your name and contact details. Signing in keeps your bookings, saved places and trip plan together in one place.

Where do I find my bookings?

Under Profile in the tab bar on your phone, or Trips & bookings in the account menu on a computer. Each booking shows its reference, status and dates. Your booking reference looks like SFR-482913.
